What is Fascia and Why Is It Important?

There is a part of our anatomy that you do not hear about very much.  Without it, you would not be able to move.  It is an essential part of your body and, taking care of it can improve your physical health.  What is it?  It is called fascia (pronounced fah-shah).

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a type of tissue that is composed of collagen fibers. You can think of it as a giant connected web throughout your body.  Healthy fascia has a liquid called hyaluronan between each layer.  If the tissue becomes dry, it can cause tightness and pain.

How Fascia is Important to Health

Fascia wraps around your organs and enhances function and support.  Several factors affect the health of fascia:

  • Stress
  • Injury
  • Dehydration
  • Not being physically active
  • Bad posture
  • Lack of quality sleep

When facia is not healthy, it can cause pain and discomfort.

When you have healthy hydrated fascia, you have a whole new outlook on life.  With healthy fascia you have:

  • less pain and soreness
  • Better body symmetry and alignment
  • Increased blood flow
  • Improved sports performance and endurance
Healthy Fascia and Stretching

Regular stretching helps the fascia stay healthy by elongating muscles and reducing tension.  Assisted stretch therapy works best to get the optimum benefits from stretching.

Assisted stretching can make all the difference. A stretch expert gives you the proper stretches that you need to relax your muscles and improve your fascia.  Whether you sit at a desk all day or are an athlete, you can benefit from assisted stretch therapy.

Some of the benefits you can look forward to with assisted stretching are:

  • Decreased stress
  • Better range of motion
  • Better sleep
  • Reduction of headaches
  • Better sex life

Fascia plays a vital role in your physical and emotional wellbeing.  Keeping it healthy through stretching can make the difference between feeling tired and sore or feeling like you are at the top of your game.
